Operational Consolidation Independent – Pioneer Fire Companies of Jenkintown

We are pleased to announce a significant development in our commitment to enhancing emergency response services and optimizing operational efficiency. After thorough planning and careful consideration, the Independent and Pioneer Fire Companies of Jenkintown have decided to operationally consolidate the two companies. The fire companies will continue to operate out of their respective stations under the collective organization of the Jenkintown Fire Department, with the Montgomery County radio designation of Station 99. The Pioneer Fire Company will transition from Station 96 to Station 99A, while the Independent Fire Company will transition from Station 16 to Station 99B.

This strategic move aims to strengthen our ability to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies within our community as well as into neighboring municipalities in coordination with our mutual aid partners. The consolidation will streamline resources, improve coordination, and foster a more cohesive and collaborative environment amongst our firefighting crew.
The consolidation will officially take effect on November 15, 2023, at which point the two companies will seamlessly transition into a single, unified department. The Jenkintown Fire Department will continue to uphold the high standards of service and dedication to public safety that our community has always come to expect.
We would like to assure our community members that this consolidation is a proactive step to enhance our capabilities and is in no way a reduction of services. The operational consolidation will allow us to allocate resources more effectively, improve training opportunities, and ultimately elevate the level of emergency response we provide to Jenkintown Borough as well as with our mutual aid partners in neighboring municipalities. This consolidation is the culmination of a multi-year process meant to better coordinate fire response between the two companies, that have been collectively serving the citizens of Jenkintown Borough for nearly 135 years. This process has been in motion for many years but really began to take shape with unified operating guidelines and a joint training standard that were both adopted in 2022.
